BNP Paribas and IBM show cloud commitment

The year is young but BNP Paribas and IBM will grow old together as they are extending their fintech partnership for eight years.

This alliance further extends the two companies’ creation of the IT services company BNP Paribas Partners for Innovation (BP2I) – a joint venture held equally by BNP Paribas and IBM since 2003. This agreement will enable BNP Paribas to continue to deploy its cloud approach with service from IBM.

BNP Paribas, which developed its first private cloud in 2013, will now integrate the IBM Cloud hosted in data centres dedicated to the bank.

The bank will also look to strengthen its hybrid cloud “as a service” capabilities, using IBM solutions offered via its public cloud to support the development of new services, including test and applications environments.

BNP Paribas notably points out that it will not use the public cloud for either customer data or production environments with sensitive information.

These new banking services and technologies developed by BNP Paribas through IBM solutions are part of its grand scheme of digitisation.

In other news today (22 January), BNP Paribas Personal Finance is staying on track with the UK automotive finance sector via a new partnership with finance and insurance (F&I) platform DealTrak.

Like the bank, IBM is also busy. Earlier this month, Nordea Bank said it will outsource its IBM Z operations to IBM in a $540 million multi-year agreement.
